Potty training tips for boys
Potty training can be a stressful time for both, parents and children, but it doesn’t have to be if done with patience and persistence. Boys tend to take longer to potty train than girls, but the main key that you have to remember is to only start potty training, when your son is ready for it.
When is the right time to potty train?
There is no fixed or ideally recommended time for you to start potty training. You can start when you feel both your child and you are ready to face the challenge. Once you are successful, you will love not having to purchase and changing soiled diapers. Not to mention the amount of money you will be saving! Most mothers start training their children at anywhere from 18 months all the way up to 3 years.
Once you start, stick with it!
Persistence is the key to potty training. Once you start, don’t give up for a few days and then re-start after a week or so. This way you are setting yourself up for failure. Potty training requires a lot of patience and tremendous amounts of persistence for it to be successful, along with a degree of motivation from your child. If you keep switching from potty training to no potty training, you child will get the wrong message and take longer to toilet train. Also, make sure you start training him when there are no added tensions in his life like a new sibling or starting preschool.
Let him learn by watching:
Kids learn things the best when they see others do it in front of them. He will see that his dad uses the toilet different from you, and this way you can even explain to him his various body parts. He will watch and learn easily if you stick with the routine and stay determined.
